It is understood that Allt-Na-Craig House was built c1842, one of three homes built by a wealthy Glasgow merchant for each of his daughters.
The author of The Wind in the Willows Kenneth Grahame lived in the house for two years as a child, before the family settled in Inveraray, where his father was Sherriff of Argyllshire.
During WW II the house was owned by two spinsters, Miss Olive and Una Campbell when it was used as a maternity home. Children born in Allt-Na-Craig House at that time still live in the village and Lochgilphead. The house was left by them to their nephew Colonel Duncan Campbell who, after leaving the house vacant for many years, sold the house to the Mackays from Letchworth Hertfordshire, who restored the house to its former glory.
Since 2001 the house has been run as a small hotel and B&B enterprise and has been in the careful and sensitive ownership of the present owners since 2014.
