Shuna View is located in a situation of great natural scenic beauty. The house enjoys a fine prominent position raised and set back from the road and from where there are spectacular views south and west over Asknish Bay to Shuna, Luing, Scarba and the northern end of Jura.
Arduaine is a pretty and popular west highland ribbon coastal settlement with houses arranged around a sheltered bay. The majority of the houses of the district enjoy a southerly and westerly exposure. Shuna View is set up and back from the old coastal road and from the A816 which connects Lochgilphead in the south with Oban further north.
The Loch Melfort Hotel is a few hundred yards to the north of Shuna View and it lies at the entrance to the famous Arduaine Gardens. The Hotel has an excellent bistro and formal restaurant. The village of Kilmelford is about 5 miles further north and has a well-stocked local store with a small restaurant and post-office as well as a comfortable highland hotel and restaurant; there is also a marina. Kilmartin is 10 miles, Crinan 17 miles, Lochgilphead 19 miles and Oban 19 miles. Ardfern, which lies 5 miles to the south, has a good village shop, hotel, cafe, marina and primary school. The Crinan Hotel is famous for its sea-food festival. Lochgilphead and Oban provide education and more extensive shopping and professional services.
In addition, about 2.5 miles to the south is Craobh Haven which is a popular purpose built holiday and sailing village. The village overlooks a group of small inshore islands which now shelter a fine yacht marina, and the stunning views take in the local islands of Shuna, Seil and Luing, as well as many better known islands from Jura in the South to the highlands of Mull in the North. The village has a local shop and an excellent pub/restaurant
The large, safe water marina was formed by the building of causeways and a large breakwater between a small group of tidal saltwater islands. The marina has been developed from a near perfect natural harbour, with berths for up to 250 craft of all sizes to a maximum length of 33 metres. Craobh marina has a harbourmaster, marina office and marine store; it provides an excellent base from which boating enthusiasts can explore an extensive selection of West Coast sea lochs and islands with lots of sheltered anchorages. In addition, there are a number of excellent wildlife cruises which also take in the famous Gulf of Corryvreckan.
The gardens and immediate surrounding area play host to a wide range of fauna including red squirrel, pine marten and otter with numerous bird species also present, which includes occasional sightings of Golden and Sea eagles.
The local countryside provides an abundance of outdoor and sporting activities including hill walking and mountain biking which are available nearby to Shuna View and there are numerous hill lochs for trout fishing plus some spate streams for salmon and sea-trout. The entire west coast offers excellent sea fishing sport and with permission/permits some of the local estates allow shooting and stalking.
